KOSHINDA WATER PROJECT
"It's simple really. Deliver water by gravity."
| |
Facts:
- 1 out of 8 people in the world have no access to clean water.
- 1 child every 20 seconds dies from diarrhea.
- A woman in Sub-Saharan Africa spend more than 25% of her time collecting water.
- One full jerry can (the yellow container most often used) weighs 40 lbs.
- In the Mudula area, over 60% of the population is without access to potable water.
- The well in town is only available to community members every 3 days- and is unreliable due to
its dependence on electricity

Plan:
| To build a gravity flow water system to serve 10,000 people-
this will include all of Mudula town as well as some of its surrounding farming villages. |

The Mudula Water project will deliver potable water from a natural spring located
at a higher elevation to communities at lower elevations through over 10 miles of hand-laid pipeline.
There will be a minimum of 8 public water taps located in Mudula, Badda, Durgi and Bohe kebeles
(a "kebele" is an administrative district, similar to a municipality). Delivery of water will
rely on gravity only- making it both very reliable and inexpensive.
